On the Shelf: Assortment

It's a shame some enterprising publisher hasn't put all of Aickman's short fiction together in two big affordable paperbacks like those two big Ray Bradbury books. Unlike Bradbury, you could easily fit all Aickmans' published stories into two volumes that size.
Somebody did, John. The problem is, the two volumes are now out of print, and used copies can go for about $1000.
Is Don't Panic anything to do with Douglas Adams?
Ed, yes it is. It's a "companion" to the HITCHHIKER books written by Neil Gaiman. I shelve it with Adams rather than Gaiman just because it's more fitting, and because with all the interview exerpts and so forth, Adams is probably responsible for as many of the words in the book as Gaiman.
Hmm, sounds cool, I'll have to check that out. I don't re-read books very often, but the Hitchhiker and Dirk Gently series are all books that I can return to at pretty much any time, that always make me feel good and make me laugh.
Just so's you know, it's not a new book. It came out some time in the 80s, before Neil Gaiman was Neil Gaiman, so there's a lot missing. But there's a plus side to that, too, because the book was written at the height of the series' popularity, and, therefore. is largely fun
