Affinity #10

See the man
The crushed up man
With the crushed up Carrolls packet in his hand
Doesn't seem to see or care
Or even understand
And all he says is:
F yez all
F yez all
F yez all
..

I think Shane deserves a comment. Sorry if I didn't leave one yesterday but when I wasn't busy "enjoying" the snow day, i.e., driving everyone around, I only had time for check-ins at Cinema Styles.

Anyway, I never really developed a diehard interest in the Pogues but I always thought their music was good and McGowan a great vocalist. And in this picture he looks like those football players you always see on the sidelines in winter with the steam coming off their faces. Just thought I'd point that out.

Obviously, I am a die hard Pogues fan, and I think MacGowan is one of the great modern songwriters. He also looks like death on toast, and this is by far the prettiest picture of him I could find. I have no idea what he's up to these days -- his second band, the Popes, broke up years ago, and I haven't heard a thing about him, other than news of occasional Pogues reunion concerts in the UK. I would say that I hope he's doing all right, but the odds are that he isn't.

But man oh man, are those first three Pogues albums something else.

I read that he got his teeth taken care of, or was going to. And yeah, they are great albums. It's been a while. Maybe I'll get them through i-tunes and re-discover the Pogues.

What teeth?? I'm pretty sure that ship has sailed. He was most likely drunk when he said that. Speaking of him being drunk, you should check out the documentary Shane MacGowan: If I Should Fall from Grace (or something like that). He's hammered throughout, and it's actually kind of depressing to watch, but it's also fascinating.

I hope you do check out some Pogues tonight. Let me know if you do, and what you think.
