Happy Mother's Day, Mom

.
Here are some of my mom's favorite movies:
I watched a lot of films with my mom, not all of which could be categorized as "her kind of film". But we liked watching them together anyway. And I'll never forget the time I rented Dead Man, and when we reached the moment when Lance Henriksen shoots Michael Wincott, and Jarmusch cuts to Henriksen at his campfire, eating Wincott's arm...oh, how she laughed. Very much in spite of herself, but she laughed.
.
I love you, Mom, and I miss you. Happy Mother's Day.

  1. Touching entry, Bill, and I'm sorry for your loss. No matter what age it's never easy. I hope you at least get happy thinking of her on this Mother's day.

  2. Well, I do and I don't, Ryan, as I'm sure you can understand. But she wouldn't want me being too down, ever, for any reason, so that helps me shake off the worst of it.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

  3. 100%. I've found that, with the people in my life that have left us, I only miss them more as time goes on and the hole in my heart grows deeper the older I get without having them around. Thankfully, I haven't lost either of my parents yet--- but it makes me sad to think that my father is so much older than I am (he was born in '42 versus my '88). I just hope he sticks around as long as possible.

Best of luck to you, my friend.

  4. Thanks Ryan, and to you, too. And I'm in the same boat, as far as my parents' ages compared to my own. Being the youngest of seven will put just about anyone in that situation. You just have to hope for as much time as you can get, and forget about any worse scenario, which is easier said than done, but worth doing nonetheless.

  5. I went to the cemetery yesterday to see the folks. Dad's been gone sine 1992, Mom since 2006. I didn't stay long and walked back to my car thinking, "You're on your own, Mar." I'd love to be able to see a film again with my mom; she was a great companion. I know how you feel, Bill, I really do.

  6. Marilyn, my mom passed in 2006, as well, though fortunately my dad's still here. But you're not on your own...you have your husband and your pets. I'm sure you know what I mean when I saw that ain't nothin'.

  7. Oh, I don't take the people in my life for granted. But there are some things you want to talk to your folks about, ask their opinion or advice. It's not the same with other people. I used to go to the opera with my dad. I tried after he died to go with my ex-husband, but it just wasn't the same. I gave up my subscription.

  8. I'm sorry, Marilyn. And I do understand. Things just aren't the same afterwards, are they?

  9. Aw, what a great post. I have nice memories of watching old movies with my mother, too, including last year when she was hep enough to go see a Peter Lorre movie with me at BAM. You make me want to see as many more with her as I can, while I can.

That's a really good idea, Campaspe.
