Marilyn Monday - Blogger's Choice, Apparently

With no word from Marilyn regarding which actress should get the nod today, I'm going to go ahead and post a picture of someone I like, who I don't think Marilyn would choose herself...

Oh damn, I forgot all about it. This gal just happens to make the hubby swoon, so you did a good job, Bill.

bill r. said...

Yes, I like her, and this picture...although the image looks a lot less pixel-y on my computer at home than on my work computer. I hope it's not too bad on yours.

Fox said...

Ha! This picture is fitting. It's as if she's giving Marilyn the sly eye, "You didn't pick anyone, so look who Bill pulled out of his pocket!".

I didn't know Marilyn was actually choosing the ladies. Is that true, or are you leg pulling?

bill r. said...

No, she picks them. And she tells me her picks right here in the comments section of my blog.

Fox said...

No offense to Marilyn, but I think I like your taste in women better than hers!!

Marilyn said...

Yes, I pick them on Sundays based on what Bill has last posted. Somehow, John Updike didn't put me in mind of pretty women...

bill r. said...

What about Eric Bogosian?

Fox said...

Somehow, John Updike didn't put me in mind of pretty women...

Are you saying lesbians can't be pretty!?!?

Marilyn said...

Were those lesbians? I thought they were men with unusual names!

bill r. said...

I'm confused.

Also, Portia de Rossi.

Marilyn said...

Jodie Foster

bill r. said...

That's two...

Fox said...

Sorry... it was a badly executed joke by me.

I was reaching for a lesbian reference by pointing to "Up-di(y)ke". Usually lesbian references work well, but I flubbed it. Sorry guys, and sorry to all of Bill's lesbian readers.

Ed Howard said...

Portia Di Rossi, mmmm...

This pick isn't too shabby either.

bill r. said...

No, Fox, I got your joke. I was more confused by Marilyn's follow up. I suspect she was quoting something, but I don't know what.

bill r. said...

Ed - This picture of Jennifer Tilly is, to my mind, the greatest photograph ever taken in the history of humans.

Fox said...

"Ed - This picture of Jennifer Tilly is, to my mind, the greatest photograph ever taken in the history of humans."

Now THAT is a quote!

... however, I still think I favor the Naomi Watts picture that started this whole thing. But I'm a leg/butt man myself.

bill r. said...

Fox, that actually WAS kind of a quote. I freely adapted it from a line from A Mighty Wind.

And I like the Watts pictures, because I share your...proclivities?...but still, I mean...Jennifer Tilly, and whatnot.

Tilly is just such an intellectual choice, Bill ... she's the thinking-person's pin-up.

I think I'm going to have to bow out of Marilyn Mondays, Bill. I really have enjoyed them, but a comment I got on my blog today convinces me that I have to stand strong with my sisters:

To a comment I made in my Hellstrom Chronicle review (which is racing through the blogosphere like a wildfire, bringing with it the larger, more insane world) about not liking the term "man" used constantly for "humanity," I got this comment: "Get over yourself, bitch."

There's much work to be done.

bill r. said...

Oh no! But most of my hits are generated by Marilyn Mondays! (That's actually true.)

Well, that's okay, Marilyn. The Sexy Ladies pictures were threatening to become the entirety of this blog, so I guess this is a good thing.

Marilyn said...

You can keep the feature, of course. You can even keep the name - you can always say it was named for Marilyn Monroe. I don't have a big problem with it because I think beauty should be appreciated. But a lot of men don't see it that way, I'm afraid.

bill r. said...

I'll probably still do it -- it's an easy, lazy kinda post -- but I may do it less frequently.

And let's be fair, now: a number of women probably wouldn't see it that way, either.

Marilyn said...

Obviously. That's why I'm bowing out.

bill r. said...

Very well. I guess I'll have to, I don't know, write more.

Greg said...

Well, here I am. Sorry I haven't commented much on these but you know, it's a pic of a beautiful woman, what's to say? I for one think Bill should lay this to rest for awhile. I kind of got annoyed for Bill with these. You know how sometimes you feel embarrassed for someone else? Well, in this case, it was annoyed for someone else. Bill has written a lot of good stuff on this blog, including some good satirical writing, like the recent Updike post. And it gets a comment from Marilyn and I while this thing racks up 25 - 30.

I much prefer your Affinity posts if you want to put up a picture. And you could put the occassional one of these up for an Affinity post if you like.

Okay, enough of my grandstanding for Bill's sake.

Now then - Who in the hell wrote "get over yourself bitch"? Because seriously, Bill and I would be happy to pound his face in. But really, is it a blogger we know? Because if it is I'd like to remove him from my blogroll.

bill r. said...

Thank you, Jonathan. I'll admit, getting virtually no comments for something I actually spent time on, while getting double-digit comments for a picture of Jennifer Tilly, can be a bit frustrating. I still liked doing these, though, because I think pretty women are pretty.

I doubt the "get over it, bitch" was anybody we know. Well, actually, I guess it could have been Rick. That sounds like something he'd say.

Word Verification: sainted

It must have thought Marilyn was commenting. Oh no wait, then it would have said, "Angel."

This is "Suck Up to Marilyn Tuesday" right?

bill r. said...

Something like that. Either that or it's Opposite Day! ZING!

Marilyn said...

I certainly could use the good words, fellas. I have to admit that comment really upset me. And no, I'm sure it wasn't anyone we know. The Hellstrom Chronicle has yielded about 900 hits since yesterday, so I'm sure it's one of those jerks out there in Stupidland.

Marilyn said...

They also water down their booze and wear a lot of polyester.

bill r. said...

And they eat garden burgers and throw rocks at babies.

Greg said...

Hi everyone, back from my lunch break in stupidland. Don't you love that place?

[reads comments he missed]

Uh... ha, ha just kidding of course. God, I hate stupidland!

Hey Marilyn - The Hellstrom Chronicle post went up a while ago. What happened yesterday that brought it back to the forefront?

Fox said...

The Hellstrom Chronicle has yielded about 900 hits since yesterday

WTF?!? I mean... that's awesome!, but WTF?!? As Jonathan asked, what generated so many hits?

Shoot... I'll take some stones tossed at me for 900 hits!

But yeah, seriously, maybe we should form a gang and go prowl this guy (or gals) blog and give him (or her) a tasted of his (or her) own medicine.

Marilyn said...

Somehow it got picked up by Metafilter. I really don't know how that happens, but there it was. Now it has moved on to Stumbleupon, where it has picked up another 100.

Marilyn said...

Y'all know that Roger Ebert linked to my review of Sita Sings the Blues on his blog? That is the awesomeness of awesomeness. And he said some very nice things to me when I thanked him in the comments section.

Fox said...

Dude! Marilyn, that is awesome! I'm about to go over there and check, but is it linked on the side somewhere?

Fox said...

Nevermind... found it! :)

I went to his SITE, instead of his BLOG... but then I got it all sorted out.

Marilyn said...

I know. It's like being anointed or something.

Fox said...

Ebert: "Not just your review, but your homework and all the time it took to find and insert that art. You put a lot of love into your blog."!!

Sorry... I know I'm acting like a super-gay brother right now, but dude, that is really cool. :)

Marilyn said...

I know. I'm kind of blown by it myself, but not surprised at his graciousness. I've met him, and he's really a wonderful man.

bill r. said...

I was linked to by Jonathan once.

Greg said...

Bill has me on his blogroll. Fox too.

Arbogast said...

I'm really wishing I had something to hand Jennifer Tilly. Something heavy.

bill r. said...

Something heavy? But that would mean she'd need both hands in order to...oh! I think I see now!
