Modern Man

Back in 2009, Dennis Cozzalio, of the very wonderful blog Sergio Leone and the Infield Fly Rule teamed up and pooled together our superhuman powers (he can fly, I can chew glass) to discuss Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds in depth, over the course of four blog posts, each one going up not quite, but near enough, simultaneously both at SLIFR and right here at TKOFYH (that's the first time I've ever acronym-ized my blog, and it gave me a huge adrenaline rush). These seemed to go well for both of us. So, a while back, Dennis and I were talking about the Coen brothers, and at some point the conversation turned to their film The Man Who Wasn't There, which we both seem to have the same reaction to. I don't want to speak for Dennis, though, so I can only speak for myself when I say that this reaction is basically "That's a great movie. What the fuck is it?"

Dennis, then or later, suggested that he and I tackle this most peculiar of Coen brothers films in the same way we did Inglourious Basterds. So, beginning Wednesday, probably at night some time (if you're on the East Coast, anyway) Dennis and I will once again join forces, Dennis soaring through the air, and I eating whatever glass objects our foes hurl at us, to take on The Man Who Wasn't There. Currently, this project is pegged to last three days, but you never know, it could end earlier or later than that. We will have to See How It Goes, as they say. But so anyway, that's the plan, Stan. Be there! Or here!

You guys are putting too much pressure on me!

One of my favorite Coens. More pressure!

But really, I'm just glad anybody's talking about it at all, let alone dedicating a few days to it, and let alone people as intelligent as yourself and Dennis. Looking forward to it.

We both hope we do right by you, Scott. For the record, since you all love the film so much, my own love of it has been gradual, and one of the reasons I wanted to do this is because my reaction to it has been so all over the place. So in my half of the first post, I focus on my early misgivings. I say this just to let you know that my love for THE MAN WHO WASN'T THERE will come through more in later installments, so I hope you will not kill me until you've read those.
