Well How Do You Like That? It's My Anniversary

Earlier today, the thought popped into my head, "Hey. Didn't you start this blog last August?" Figuring I'd missed my own anniversary, I went and checked my archives, and unless you count the test post I put up on Aug. 15, 2008, which I'm not inclined to do, The Kind of Face You Hate officially got rolling on Aug. 19, 2008.
.
Apart from the fact that this strongly suggests that Nostredamus was right when he said "...Webbe Logge Aniversarees shalle bee rememberèd on thee verie Daye oƒ theire Cellebration; and thee Eagel shalle rise to thee Touer and bringe with it Great Boughes on which thee Horsès maye Feaste", this sudden realization also provides me with the opportunity to reminisce. About what, I'm at a loss to say. Things I've posted, I suppose, but shit, you know where the archives are. Just click on those.

The other day, Arbogast celebrated his second anniversary, and informed his readers that he's written some 800 posts. This post you're reading now is number 216, which means I'm writing at roughly one-fourth the rate Arbogast is. How I stack up to Ed Howard, I don't even want to think about. Yet, even with that sense of failure now firmly embedded in my skull, I'm tempted to take this unexpected anniversary as an exuse to slack off for a few days. Oh, I might put up a picture here and there, just to keep the wheels greased, but otherwise, I think I'm taking the next few days off. Probably.

In the meantime, I want to thank everybody who has encouraged and supported me for the past year, and has made this whole endeavor so worthwhile, and so much fun. I'm talking about you, Arbogast, Ed Howard, Greg, Rick, Fox, Marilyn, Brian, Pat Piper, Pat Perry, Bob Turnbull, Glenn Kenny, Dennis Cozzalio, Ryan Kelly, Neil Sarver, Kevin J. Olson, and Tom Carson!

Also, I still think the best thing about this entire blog is its name, and the banner that goes with it, said banner having been designed by Greg. So thanks again for that one, Greg.

And now, the pay-off...

Because it's my blog, damn it.

Happy Anniversary! I enjoy reading you.

Thank you very much, D&S! I'm very glad to have you around.

Happy one year, Bill! And I hope for many more! (I know it's a cliche but I mean it sincerely, so there you have it)

Ryan - You're so sweet! Seriously, though, thank you. I'm a bit shocked it's been a year, to be honest.

Congratulations, Bill. I'm just startig to follow your site, but I look forward to continuing to do so for a long, long time.

Happy Birthversary!!

May every anniversary bring with it expressions of sentiment as powerful as those expressed by Dana Delany!

But seriously, this blog was one of my favorites from the first time you pressed "Post," Bill, and I'm always glad when I go to check up on what you're up to. I only wish I could be more consistent in taking part in the comments section. Wanna do a back-and-forth discussion for posting when Homicide comes out?

And by the way, the one way to describe Arbogast is insanely prolific. It took me five years to get where he got in two. [ Sound Of Head Hanging In Lazyman's Shame ]

Happy anniversary, and once again, ladies and gentlemen, give it up for Dana Delany!

Thanks a lot, Tony! I was so happy to see you hop over from Glenn's place. You're one of the nicest and smartest guys I've run across recently on this here internet, which is not otherwise known for its niceness OR its smartness.

Kassy - Thanks, Kassy! I'm always happy when you drop in and say hey, or when you jump into the TOERIFC discussions. I'm planning on widening the circle of blogs that I frequent, so I'm going to be popping over to your place a lot more often.

Dennis - Ah, Dennis! Good to talk to you again. I hate that I comment at your place less often than I used to, and I want to change that, too. Hell, I think I've left three or four comments at SLIFR just this week, which is pretty good for me, lately.

And I would LOVE to do duelling posts on Homicide, although I just realized tonight that my planned anniversary break can't last that long, as I'll be seeing Inglourious Basterds on Friday, and I know I'll want to put something up about it over the weekend. Are you going to be able to see it in the next few days? Do you think we could coordinate something for that film?

And yeah, Dana Delany. She's extremely persuasive in her arguments, whatever they are.

Congrats, Bill!

You've a had a year of great posts - I'm looking forward to the next year's worth.

bill r. said...

Thank you very much, Pat. It's really an odd and great thing about blogging that I've gotten to know people like you, who otherwise I'd never know existed.

Ed Howard said...

Wow, it's been a year already! Seems like only yesterday you were just a wee blogger. *Sob* they grow up so fast.

Anyway, keep up the good work, Bill. I always enjoy stopping by here. You're an endlessly witty, engaging writer and a great presence in the film blogging community.

But the "pay-off" is a big red X? Is my work network just blocking a dirty picture? Damn.

bill r. said...

Ed - Thank you very much. You guys all set such a high standard, and I hope I can at least, you know, sort of kind of approach it.

And I'm sorry about your big red X. It should be a picture of the lovely Miss Dana Delany, and I can still see her clearly. Too bad for you.

Congratulations, Bill! I love your blog, and look forward to reading it for many more years to come.

bill r. said...

Thanks, Brian! Good to hear from you again! Also, football!

Happy 1 year, Bill!!! I can't believe it's been that long, so fast. What was your first post about again? I remember you rolled out a Mamet affinity pretty quickly and then something abouy Budd Boeticher (excuse spelling) quickly after that.

But, I think we may for certain now have different taste in women (which is fine, mind you), because I've never thought of DD in a sexual way, and that picture kinda freaks me out.

WORD VERIFICATION: chinesp (read by me as "Chinese pee"). Sorry to just ruin your anniversary with that...

bill r. said...

Fox - My first post was just about the fact that I was writing my first post. I did a thing about Crime and Punishment shortly thereafter, with a promise to write more on it later, which I never did, and that's probably for the best.

How you can not find Dana Delany sexually attractive is beyond me. She's just so...so wonderful. For God's sake, what's not to find attractive? Besides that, I thought you liked 'em scary.

Fox said...

I like 'em scary like "oh my god, I wonder if this girl may jump out of my car at any second!?" NOT "oh my god, why is my real estate agent wearing a chastity belt with teased hair!?".

But we both think Gugino is pretty much the greatest, so...

Also, do you and/or Brian play Fantasy Football?

If you didn't think Gugino was hot, I would shoot you in the face. I'm not joking.

Also, do you and/or Brian play Fantasy Football?...

I don't. I honestly don't think I know enough about the game to really do it well.

Marilyn said...

I see Marilyn Monday lives on in hearts and minds. Congratulations, buddy!

bill r. said...

Thanks Marilyn! And you should know by now that Marilyn Mondays are never far from my thoughts.

Dana Delaney is awesome, and Fox as usual is crazy. Although, now that I'm home and can actually see what the fuss is about, is she supposed to be in the circus in that picture? It's a weird mixture of hot and kinda silly.

Brian Doan said...

Football, yes! Fox, I don't play fantasy football, partly for the reasons Bill cites, but also because the fun of it for me is following a team more than following individual players. Of course, since my team is the Cleveland Browns, "fun" is a relative term, but...

bill r. said...

Ed - The picture of Delany does have its silly elements, and yet it manages to achieve a certain effect that pleases me. Also, from the computer I used in my building's law library, it was the best picture I could find that met my needs without including nudity. I mean, this isn't a porn site. I'm not Arbogast.

Brian - Do the Redskins play the Browns this year? Probably not, but if they did you and I could flat-out hate each other for one whole day!

Cleavage, of course.

bill r. said...

Ed, why do you always have to ruin everything?

Greg said...

Well, Bill, I've been away from the internets just as you're celebrating an anniversary. That's just fucking great. Sorry I missed it and sorry I'm just getting around to fully surfing again. I sneaked a look here and there at blogs but didn't really comment and still don't really feel like writing or blogging or facebooking right now. Hopefully soon. In the meantime, Happy Anniversary. I'm glad to have been one of the original folks to encourage you to start blogging and glad I met you at SLIFR back in 07. You've been a good friend online since and I hope for many years to come.
