Update

First of all, I want to sincerely thank everyone for their kind thoughts. Second, while we're not out of the woods by any stretch (by which I mean my family, and specifically my dad), those woods are at least less thick and dark than they were previously described to be. I want to be realistic (because this is serious, no matter how much good news I hear) but also optimistic, and currently those two points of view are waging a glorious battle within me and everyone else dealing with this situation.

Anyway. The hiatus is still in place (it's hard to think about why I think horror movies are generally so bad right now, as you can imagine), but I thought I'd pop in and let you guys know I'm doing okay. And thanks again.

PS - It's strange the books one reads for relaxation and distraction in moments of crisis...

I am glad to hear it, Bill. My thoughts are with you and your Dad.

I am looking forward to debating the merits of horror films with you soon.

Hope everything turns out okay with your Dad, Bill.

And be careful, Olson cheats at debates.

It's good to hear that things aren't quite as bleak as you originally thought. I'll be sending good vibes your way and hoping you'll all be up for horror movies in no time.

Thanks, everybody. Without getting into details, as originally presented to me, the situation could not have been bleaker. Over the next few days, that changed. My dad is still very sick, but there is now at least some reason for hope.

And I actually am up for horror movies. I find them oddly relaxing. I'm just not in the mood to write about them (or anything else, right now).

Bill, I'm glad to hear you've been able to achieve at least a little peace of mind.

I can't imagine dealing with what you are dealing with, but it sounds like you've got a lot of love in your family that is helping you through.

Again, all my best thoughts and wishes go out to you and your family.

Thanks, Fox. The situation now is not one I'm happy with, but it's so much better (in a sense, at least) than what we were all hearing on Friday that I have to feel a little positive. And it's sounding like there is time to adjust to it, and time to enjoy with my dad, that I can't let the sadness of it consume me. He's here, he's positive, he has his sense of humor, and he'll be here for a while yet. I have to focus on that.

Hey, thanks Beth. Things are better right now. Not great, but better. My dad's in very good spirits, which is all I can really ask for.
